I have been blocked by a coward today (or yesterday) and I am unable to answer his comment (because he blocked me only after he commented). I guess he didn't had enough guts to face what I had to tell him. Thus I will post my answer here.

The entire issue was about this picture (that it is rubbish, it cannot happen, they would never work together, you do not have enough talent or skill to make it work, Robo would kill all the villain on the spot and no one will want to see/read that anyway):

And the story that will follow.

So, this is what he said and my answer (the entire conversation has been hidden and the user is now blocked by me):

mrmachination: Thats easy enough to say, "a writer can make him do anything" but then hes not the character you want anymore. Its some warped version who no fan of the character really wants to see because youve changed him in a way that makes him something different. Alan Moore has the skill to pull that off and make it work, with flawed characters fighting even worse. You have a heroes hero teaming with the other spectrum of evil. Do not think for one moment you have the skill to pull that off. SO remember, it may work for you, but it will only ever work for you, and no one else.

I commented because the idea seemed so outlandish it was almost reflex. Like protecting a passenger in your arm with your arm instinctively if you have to stop short. Your team is so ridiculous that I tried to use my arm to protect them from your laughable matchup.

Many of the leagues I put up have their own adventures, but im not so egotistical that I think I can completely rewrite them as if they are my own. The adventures fit into a basic respect for time, previous storylines and character. They are allowances made, but like I said, Superman and hannibal lecter wont be on a league I create, no matter what laughable excuse can be made to justify it.

What you call dogmas, the rest of the worlds writers sees as basic logic. You want to pretend that basic logic doesnt exist in fiction so you can keep playing, thats YOUR problem, and one I dont see being solved without medication.

Oh dont worry, im sure most will take that advice and avoid what you put out.

Me: You missed my point. You (or I) as a writer are to make him do whatever you need him to do but not turn his personality upside down. If he's to do something that he wouldn't normally do, you have to create circumstances that will force him to do what you want him to do. You do not have to "rewrite" their personalities, all you have to do is to give them no other choice but to cooperate. Authors do that all the time.

I should be angry but I just feel bad for you instead. You dare to tell me what I am capable and incapable of but you didn't really know what I can or cannot do. You are ignorant about my skill but rest assured: yes I can pull this up, I already did similar things three times. The only question is: will it go the best in here or in my other accounts outside of dA. Especially that I will have to censor it in the gorier places.

You mean the rest of the world's writers that never published anything? Because the ones that do publish break the rules all the time because that's how creativity works. If we did everything the same way every time we would still sit in caves and talk in grunts. Any kind of progress must be achieved by moving the existing boundaries, art is no different.

Sure, whatever you say, mind however that you are only speaking for yourself. I am on dA merely one year longer than you are yet I have seven times more watchers than you do, not counting lurkers (and we're talking dA alone, not counting other sites), and not because I listened to zealots (in fact I battled trolls and took unpopular choices) but because I listened to my own insight and my insight tell me to go for it. You want to keep to the safety of staying within canon boundaries then it is your choice but don't you dare to denounce people who have more artistic courage than you do.

So, this is how it went.

Being blocked by someone before even have the chance to answer sucks, doesn't it? But some people are not able to discuss a matter like an adult, that's not so uncommon. The best You can do is to forget about that argue and go on My first Emoticon - Shrug
